Task 3:

You will need to evaluate each of your images, critiquing them using subject terminology. You will need to say for each image:

  • How it fits the intended target audience
  • What the meaning is in the photo
  • How the composition was designed
  • How it fits historically/politically in the photography world
  • How effective your process was – creativity and time management
  • Your editing skills
  • Notes from the peer review – do you agree? Disagree?
  • What you would have done differently
  • Areas of main strengths

As well as peer review, I have analyzed my own photographs and self-evaluated.

I like this photograph because it suits the brief of marketing the media course well. Here, you can see the media lecturer showing a student how a camera works and how he can get the best use out of it. I feel like I should have added more composition with this as in I should have focused on the main subject and blurred the background as well as the other student in the background. This photograph fits with the target audience as it shows them how they will be taught as well as what type of things to expect from the media course. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

This photograph is better than the last one where I tried to show the lecturer helping the student (which fits with the target audience) because the subject is more in focus whereas the background and the students in the background are more blurred. I could have made this even better by working with different angles and blurring the photograph more for the background. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

I like this photograph because it shows the students happily playing around with the camera. I should have got a lower down angle as it would have looked better and got rid of the things in the background which bring down the quality a bit. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

I like this shot because it focuses on the camera and makes it the subject. I like the blurriness around the camera and the students looking at the board – the idea a student is still playing with the camera despite supposed to be looking at the board shows the creativity and interest of the course which helps it fit to the brief. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

This photograph shows the lecturer showing the student how to take a better photograph and therefore the student is learning the different ways he can use composition to make his photographs better. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be. I should have played with the depth of field and zoomed into the lecturer and the student for this photograph because it would have made it more obvious it was the subject and would’ve looked a lot better.

I thought this photograph was good as it shows the students are engaged in the session and showing each other the photos they have taken. The photo is of low quality however and I should have focused more when taking the photo as well as played with the depth of field. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

This photo shows the students engaged in the lesson and fits the target audience as it shows the students being involved with the lesson and helps to make the course look better and therefore want to get more involved. I should have zoomed in a bit more in this photo to capture the student looking at the camera more with her friend. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

This photo is quite similar to the last one which perhaps wasn’t a good idea to do and I should have taken one that was different. I liked this one better as you can see her focus, however, I should have possibly zoomed in or raised the depth of field keeping just her focus on the camera and the background more blurry. My final photographs were all quite rushed because I had to constantly change the marketing idea so the photographs I got were not as planned as they should be.

Overall, I should have planned more for the photographs and decided what kind of compositions I could use as well as giving myself time to develop my skills in learning them.

PEER REVIEW

HOLLY HUNT

Constructive Feedback: The lighting could be thought about in some as there is some strong lights and reflections. Some are a little blurry. Some could have different compositions as there are a few backs of heads.

Positives = Some strong compositions and nice points of focus. Good actions shots.

CL: I agree with the constructive criticism that Holly has mentioned – I should have taken more into consideration when taking the photographs i.e. the lighting and the environment of the photographs, as well as some of the photographs being a little blurry. I should have tried to take advantage and used more compositions due to there being so many different shots: i.e. back of heads I could have used to balance the photograph and blurred those out to give more focus on the main subject.

Positives: Nicely laid out and easy to understand & read.

Pictures are really good quality and you can understand what’s going on from them very easily.
